Text description provided by the architects. Located in the Vila Buarque neighborhood, in the city of São Paulo, the apartment that is the subject of this project stems from the conflict between the demand for affordable and decent social housing in urban areas, the promotion of such housing by private capital, and the high cost of buildings in these regions. The apartment building was designed by Shundi Iwamizu Arquitetos Associados (SIAA) and represents another conflict – this time between the developer’s “good intentions” in commissioning respected São Paulo architecture firms to design some of its social housing projects and the challenge of maintaining the integrity and quality of the original design while maximizing profits.
